Parent & Child
8 months – 3 years
These classes are spilt into two age groups; 8 – 18 months and 19 months to 3 years. The aims are to introduce parents and children into a swimming environment,whilst helping them gain water confidence, be safe and have fun. As they progress each term, and as they get older, there will be more emphasis on an introduction to swimming strokes.
Class Size 8 – 12 – Teacher in the water
Preschool - Ducklings
1-4 Years
For the total beginner aged 3- 4 years – at this level children will learn the fundamentals of swimming through structured play.
Class Size max 6 – Teacher and Helper in the water
Intro Beginners – L2S Stage 1
For school aged children with no previous experience and for those with experience but unable to swim unaided. By introducing a lesson structure, children will develop confidence and ease in the swimming pool by means of play. The aim of this stage is to introduce basic arm and leg movements, floating, and confidence in blowing bubbles with face in the water.
At the end of this stage children will be able to swim 5 metres front and back unaided and be confident to jump into the water.

Class Size max 6 – Teacher and Helper in the water
Beginners – L2S Stage 2
Children should be able to swim without aids for a distance of about 5 metres on their front and back, and they should also be able to confidently submerge their face in the water. The aim of this stage is to introduce over arm recovery for Front Crawl & Backstroke and the introduction of Breaststroke and Butterfly.
At the end of the stage children should be able to swim 8 metres Front Crawl & Backstroke and a basic Breaststroke.

Class Size max 6 – 8 Teacher and helper in the water
Improvers 1 – L2S Stage 3
Children should be able to swim to a distance of 8 metres using both front crawl and backstroke. By this stage they should be able to float and submerge with ease and have a basic knowledge of breaststroke and butterfly. To focus on developing the skills already gained. To become more competent in all strokes, with efficient kick, body positions and breathing techniques, Sculling and treading water will also be introduced. At the end of this stage children will be able to swim 10 metres of Front crawl and Backstroke. Awards obtainable at this level L2S Stage 3 and 10 metre badge
Class size max 8. Teacher and helper in the water
Improvers 2 – L2S Stage 4
Children should be able to confidently swim to a distance of 10m using both front crawl and back stroke. They should also be able to demonstrate 5 metres of breaststroke, butterfly, treading water and sculling. To improve on strength, efficiency and stamina in the main swimming strokes. At the end of this stage they should be able to swim 25 metres with controlled breathing and be able to perform basic sculling actions and tread water for 30 seconds. Awards obtainable at this level L2S Stage 4 and 25 metre badge.
Class Size max 8 – Teacher out of water
Advanced 1 – L2S Stage 5
For this stage children should be able to swim confidently 25 metres using all swimming strokes; front crawl, backstroke, breast stroke and butterfly. The aim is to improve on all swimming styles and diving techniques, along with an awareness of water safety and survival skills. At the end of the stage children will be able to swim 50 metres competently in all strokes. Awards obtainable at this level L2S Stage 5 and 50 metre badge
Class Size max 8 – Teacher out of water
Advanced 2 – L2S Stage 6&7
To swim competently with controlled breathing over 50 metres on all strokes. Introduce head first entries sit/kneel/crouch & plunge. Introduce basic touch turns, tumbles & in the water diving practices. Develop quality stroke technique up to 100 metres+, ability to kick efficiently on front crawl, Backstroke & Breaststroke, incorporate skills learnt and combine them to develop a linked routine and successfully complete an obstacle course that combines a variety of skills acquired throughout stages 1 – 7. Awards obtainable at this level L2S Stage 6 & 7 and 100 and 400 metre badge
Class Size 10 max – Teacher out of water
Adult Classes
Lessons for the most nervous adult to the more advanced. Small class ratios are ideal allowing more individual attention.
Private Lessons
Aged 4 years plus
Individual lessons for both children and adults of all abilities, lesson can be 1 2 1 or 1 2 2 basis swimmers must be of similar age and ability These lessons take place on a ad hoc basis when the pool is available out side Farleigh School usage.
